Chief Data Scientist
We are seeking an experienced Chief Data Scientist to join us to dominate the rapidly growing space of retail analytics. You role is to help us build and improve the heart of our retail business intelligence analytics system using our proprietary data. Working side by side with the founders, you will help produce tools that empower retailers the same way as google analytics empower websites.
As Chief Data Scientist, you will be a member of the leadership team. You will be responsible for:
* Leading the development and testing of hypotheses across all functional areas
* Researching and applying multidisciplinary techniques, findings and approaches to problems
* Designing, implementing and analyzing algorithms which substantially impact products
* Leading development of prototypes and guiding solutions into production
* Establishing strategic research roadmap
* Serving as a primary person to consult on complex data science issues, contributing key ideas
* Help buid, grow, and lead the future data science team

* Academic background in applied maths, computer science, stats, or other related field, PhD is a major plus
* Proven research background, in academic or industrial work, with an emphasis on delivering practical research that has a critical impact on multiple projects
* Awareness of business objectives and ability to apply this understanding to recommend and implement product development for difficult and complex technical issues
* Obsession with data and system improvement, tempered with pragmatic ability to prioritize
* Comfort in working within a modern engineering environment (Linux, system architecture, Java, Python, PostGreSQL, multithreaded programming)
* Ability to script experimental solutions (Python, R, Matlab, etc) and use off-the-shelf statistical analysis tools, familiarity with Hadoop and related sub-projects (MapReduce, Pig, HBase, Mahout, etc.) is a plus
* Ability to quickly prototype experimental solutions and develop robust, maintainable production system
* Excellent analytical, communication, and organisational skills
* Managerial skills: hire, train and mentor research team
